Proprietary herbal blend from ENovate Biolife shown to improve quality of life for people with lower back pain
A recent randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group study investigated the effects of a proprietary blend of Vitex negundo leaves and Zingiber officinale rhizome, marketed as Muvz by ENovate Biolife, on lower back pain. The herbal blend was able to improve functional activity, bending flexibility, pain, and sleep quality.

Undenatured type II collagen benefits joint health in six weeks, study finds
A study found that 40mg/day of Collavant n2 supplementation (ingredient by Bioiberica) saw a 44.8% improvement in the participant’s WOMAC pain score. The women-only study explored the effects of 40 mg/day Collavant n2 supplementation on joint functionality and quality of life in women with knee osteoarthritis (OA), confirming that the ingredient enhanced functionality and joint comfort in six weeks.

Proprietary Bacopa extract sees significant improvements in memory and cognition in recent study
A recent study investigating a proprietary Bacopa monnieri extract (BME) found positive impacts on memory and cognitive health. The extract is manufactured by Samriddh Nutractive Pvt. Ltd. and sold as B-Lit Bacopa. Results showed that subjects taking BME saw significant improvements in memory (verbal short-term memory, spatial short-term memory, working memory, visuospatial working memory, and episodic memory) and cognition (concentration, alertness, reasoning, and mental flexibility) compared to placebo.

Study findings show that PEA supplementation increased levels of neurotrophic markers and improved memory in young healthy subjects
A recently published study found that PEA supplementation may improve parameters of cognitive function and increase brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) levels. The PEA supplement used was Levagen+ from Gencor. Results showed that compared with placebo, subjects taking PEA saw a significant increase in serum BDNF levels, as well as improved memory based on better first success and fewer errors on the Paired Associates Learning test, as part of the Cambridge Neuropsychological Test Automated Battery (CANTAB).

Researchers develop supplement to chase postpartum blues away
Researchers from the Centre for Addiction & Mental Health have invented, researched, developed, and commercialized a novel supplement that they claim is the first ever clinically validated natural supplement to prevent postpartum depression. Their study (eClinicalMedicine, 10 April) involved 103 postpartum participants who took either 4 doses of the natural supplement (Apotex’s L-tryptophan 2g; Natural Factors’ L-tyrosine 10g; blueberry juice + FutureCeutical’s VitaBlue blueberry extract) several days after giving birth or a matching placebo. Among the supplement group, two-thirds of women experienced either no symptoms or negligible symptoms of postpartum blues. Furthermore, in the following 6 months, participants who received the supplement experienced fewer depression symptoms with none reaching the clinical threshold of postpartum depression at 6 months.

Caltrate granules launched in China
Haleon has launched Caltrate pediatric granules (calcium + vitamin D), the brand’s first product in this format in China, to address the issue of insufficient dietary calcium intake among children aged 4-10 years. The granule sachets debuted in GuoDa Drugstores nationwide and the two parties will collaborate to promote the product via in-store promotions, consumer education activities, and online initiatives (e.g. live broadcasts by category experts).

Sanofi Asks Banks to Pitch for $20 Billion OTC Spinoff
Sanofi has reportedly asked banks to pitch for roles in the separation of its consumer-health business. The Sanofi unit sells over-the-counter remedies including Gold Bond skin lotions, Phytoxil cough syrups, and Icy Hot pain relief gels. Sanofi is considering both a spinoff as well as an outright sale of the operation, and no decision has been made yet.

Uber Technologies strikes a nationwide partnership with The Vitamin Shoppe in the US, making the wellness selection available for on-demand and scheduled delivery via the Uber Eats app. Supplements can be ordered from 700 The Vitamin Shoppe and Super Supplements locations.

Vector Consumer Strengthens Its Collagen Business By Acquiring Dose & Co. And Pura Collagen
Vector Consumer is doubling down on collagen with the acquisitions of Pura Collagen and Dose & Co. Terms of the deals weren’t disclosed. The two brands will enter a portfolio with collagen brand Solv. and L.F.C., a protein brand Liverpool-based Vector Consumer developed under a license with Liverpool Football Club.

Kenvue has introduced Versalie, a digital platform to help women navigate through the menopause. Acknowledging that menopause is not a “one size fits all experience”, Kenvue created Versalie to provide virtual care services (Versalie Care), expert-reviewed content (Versalie Learn), a Symptom Navigator and a curated storefront of products (Versalie Shop) all in one place. The resource was developed in collaboration with experienced healthcare professionals, menopause experts, and women experiencing different phases of menopause. Versalie aims to help women speak confidently about their menopause experience and receive the support they need. To help raise awareness, the platform has teamed up with actress and producer, Niecy Nash-Betts, to share her personal story of the “Last Period” and kick-start a conversation.

Aleve speaks the painful truth
Bayer’s Aleve, in partnership with Mothers Against Prescription Drug Abuse (MAPDA), has launched The Painful Truth campaign. This was developed to encourage consumers to explore pain relief options such as OTCs with their doctors before taking opioids. While the USA makes up 4.4% of the global population, it consumes more than 80% of the world’s opioids. The campaign launched with a film featuring real pain sufferers at a crossroads and seeking guidance. They believe they are participating in a video call with a pain expert who will help them explore their options, but as the conversation progresses the “expert” reveals that they are in recovery from opioid use disorder. The Painful Truth challenges patients to explore and understand the drugs they are prescribed before using them.
