STADA unveils latest European health trends
Stada has unveiled the results of its 2024 Health Report survey of around 46,000 consumers across 23 European countries, with key findings including:
On average, satisfaction with healthcare systems has fallen to 56% vs 74% in 2020, with 28% citing a lack of prevention services available. There were notable declines in satisfaction rates in the UK, Kazakhstan, and Germany, with difficulty booking appointments with HCPs a key factor. Meanwhile, 46% of Europeans do not trust those responsible for creating health policy.
However, consumer trust in conventional medicine is rising (69%; up by 7% since 2022), with men displaying greater levels of trust than women.
On average, consumers remain mistrustful of AI in personal healthcare, with concerns voiced around misuse (64%), data security (57%), the loss of human interaction (59%), and potential impact on human roles in the healthcare sector (56%). Google, online articles, and official websites remain key avenues to find health information, while GPs and pharmacists are the most important sources of information when it comes to buying OTCs and dietary supplements.
89% of Europeans support their overall well-being through activities such as physical exercise (50%), a healthy diet (49%) and dietary supplements (32%). However, only 54% of Europeans perceive their physical health to be “good” or “very good”, while 65% rate their mental wellbeing the same (down from 67% in 2023)
Identified as a global public health concern by the World Health Organization in 2023, Stada suggests that Europe is in the throes of a loneliness epidemic, despite technology allowing us to be more connected than ever. The Health Report reveals that 52% of people experience loneliness, with the highest rates (63%) among consumers aged 18-34 years; those spending the highest amount of time on social media were more likely to experience loneliness.
